Matt Stark is the game designer behind the critically acclaimed Bafta-winning puzzle game Viewfinder. After video clips of his prototype went viral in 2020, he left university and teamed up with a collection of talented producers and developers from across the industry to form Sad Owl Studios, the indie studio that would develop Viewfinder. In addition to two Baftas, the game has won numerous other awards including UKIE's UK Game Of The Year, Bitsummit's Excellence In Game Design and Develop's Best Technical Innovation.

Viewfinding: From Mechanic to Game
After a video of my experimental game mechanic went viral in 2020, I started creating a game around the mechanic. This game would eventually become Viewfinder. In this talk I’ll be discussing the process of building a game around a single mechanic, and the various design challenges we faced in turning Viewfinder’s picture mechanic into a game.
